Hi! I'm Christine - welcome to Fancy Free! Thank you for taking the time to leap off the social media landscape and jump onto an old fashioned website.

Over the past 2 years, I have done some serious soul searching and redesigning of my life. This has entailed endless researching, listening to podcasts, reading books, blogs, articles and having a ton of candid conversations. In the process, I realized how improvement in the same areas of life were hot topics among my peer group:

  • doing what you love with people you love

  • living more simply

  • living with less “stuff”

  • saving more money

  • creating less waste

  • healthy eating and exercise

  • becoming more efficient and effective

The grand sum of getting better in all these subjects = INCREASED HAPPINESS.

Fancy Free (note the double entendre), was founded out of my passion for the recurring conversations and learnings around these topics that make meaningful impact on our lives. I was fancy. I was once indulgent, frivolous, squandering hard earned money, buying clothes I never wore, or things that I didn't actually need. I worked at a job that sucked my emotional energy and spent time with (some) people who drained my cup instead of filling it. This isn't to elude that I am perfect now, but over the past 2+ years, if I compare now to then, I have made some drastic changes.

The interesting thing is, the changes I made were so minute and gradual that I didn't feel like I lost out on anything, nor do I have an empty feeling, let alone a desire to go back to my former practices.

It can be easy to forget the steps we take throughout our journeys to our best life. Fancy Free is a place to document and share these findings, learn from them and inspire conversation that will help each other design your own quest to freedom and happiness.

What better time to start talking about this than now, in the eye of the Covid-19 storm? A time when we are all social distancing and are being FORCED to live more simply. I think we've all been given a new perspective. A hindsight view on all the things we did and bought in our previous, un-quarantined lives and how silly some of it seemed. Will we go back to our old ways? Or will we try to make some serious adjustments?

I get this super satisfying high when my friends and loved ones nerd out with me about a new life hack or inspirational insight. The vision I have for fancyfreeyourself.com is to create a hub, a go-to space, that holds a library of material and resources. If you're like me, you too appreciate the community, ideas and support needed to make impactful changes in our lives.

The journey of living simply and intentionally is (or can be) a lllooonnnggg process. This is certainly an ongoing adventure for me and I learn more and more everyday. The minor, but consistent tweaks to my life have been what’s made everything sustainable for the long haul. Since it doesn’t all happen at once, I hope that you join me on this zig zagging, sometimes uphill, trail to financial independence, an aspiring ZeroWaste home, and minimalistic living. At the top is a feeling of contentment, clarity and overall genuine happiness.

I know your time is precious and I sincerely thank you for checking out this post. Feel free to subscribe to get the latest posts sent direct to your inbox (how efficient!) and I promise they will come only once or twice a week at most.

I will consider the Fancy Free project to be successful when the content and community here resonate with you enough that you make changes to your life that are positively noticeable to you, inside and out.
